Last weekend, I had the pleasure of travelling to Western Uganda to explore Lake Mburo National Park with The Pearl Guide’s Uganda Travel Month.
I was thrilled to join the group as I hadn’t been to Lake Mburo before and even though I didn’t mention it on my bucket list, I had a feeling this was one of those undiscovered gems that I would thoroughly enjoy. And I sure did.
The trip lasted two days. We set off early Saturday morning and returned Sunday afternoon. It’s astonishing to think we had the amount of fun that we did in just a couple of hours!
My absolute favorite parts of the trip:
The bus – the bus ride to the park was an experience on its own. There was a literal party on the bus complete with music, drinks and dancing. It was impossible to fall asleep on the journey and I’m not complaining. The bus made the long drive bearable and had me looking forward to what lay ahead. Kudos to the bus drivers too who were calm, steady and moving at a comfortable speed to ensure that we arrived in one piece, safe and sound.
The lake – I just love lakes, seas, oceans, waterfalls etc. and Lake Mburo was no exception. The lake had some spectacular views and we got to see this as well as the wonderful lake wildlife which included crocodiles, buffaloes and hippos via a boat ride.
The campsite – this was an exciting one for me as I had never camped before (at least not in my adult life and not that I can recall). I looked forward to it and with the encouragement of my good friend Mercy, who insisted that we camp and not opt for a cottage, I’m glad that we did! I loved the campsite ambiance – perfect view of the lake and within close proximity to the restrooms, restaurant and bar.
The Saturday night party – the party did not stop on the bus. The DJ’s held it down the entire time that we were there. I danced so much, I can still feel the strain on my quadriceps (and again, I’m not complaining).
What I would have adjusted:
The only thing that I would say I wish I’d had more of is the game drive through the park. It was not as thorough as I anticipated. My ideal would have been an open roof safari van and a tour guide to enable us get better sights as well as insights on the remarkable wildlife. However, we did spot quite a few animals in the distance including warthogs, impalas and zebras.
Take a look at some of my pictures below.

Our campsite 🙂

A selfie just before the boat ride begun.

A hippopotamus pod.

Buffaloes on the lake.

Beautiful views at sunset…

Just before we said our goodbyes 🙁

Zebras sighted as we drove out of the park.
Have you been to Lake Mburo National Park before? What was your experience? I look forward to your comments in the reply section below. Xx.

Great travel/ party and adventurous experience! My time there was more serene, restfuland peaceful. What I love about travel is that you can have completely different experiences whenever you visit the same place depending on many factors like the company you have.

AUTHORHi Peter. You definitely can. There are various accommodation options available e.g. cottages at Arcadia lodges (link below) and children can join you for game drives through the park and boat rides on the lake. Xx.
